The president of the National Defence Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, made an illegal visit to Varosha.
According to Kibris Postasi, accompanied by the “parliament” president Zorlu Tore, “ambassador” of Turkey to the occupied areas Metin Feyzioglu, and other “officials,” Akar visited Varosha.
The Turkish Cypriot newspaper reported that Mr. Akar “was briefed on the latest developments in the region during his visit to Varosha and spoke with visitors to the area.”
Speaking to the press in Varosha, he referred to the “sacrifices made by the Turkish side” during the invasion of Cyprus.
He also wished success to the Turkish Cypriot side and the personnel of the Turkish armed forces in their duties.
For his part, Mr. Tore spoke of a common “national issue” for Turkish Cypriots and Turkey.
The Turkish delegation is expected to meet with representatives of the Turkish Cypriot leadership today.
