DISY selects candidates for European Parliament elections

DISY’s political bureau on Saturday selected the party’s candidates for the European Parliament elections.

The ballot revealed four winners out of the six candidates. Specifically, the victors were former Interior and Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides, former journalist and MEP Loukas Fourlas, former Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela, and hospitality entrepreneur Christos Angelides.

Christiana Xenofontos and Eleni Stavrou secured the other two positions on the ballot through internal regulations and the quotas applicable to women and individuals under 35.

Topping the list in the political members’ choices for the European ballot was Hadjipantela with 92 votes. Following him were Petrides with 77 votes, Fourlas with 74, and Angelides with 66.

Marios Pelekanos with 61 votes and Onisiforos Iordanous with 32 votes, missed out on the candidacies.

The European Parliament elections in Cyprus will take place on June 9, 2024.
