Coast Guard patrols off Lebanon to intercept migrant boats

Relevant News

The first patrols in international waters off Lebanon are being conducted today by two Cyprus vessels in order to disrupt migration flows.

The measure is being implemented for the first time, following the recent agreement reached with Lebanon during the visit of the President of the Republic.

As reported to us by the Ministry of Interior, all necessary actions are being taken to address the acute problem of irregular migrant flows from Lebanon in consultation with the authorities of the neighbouring country.

The two vessels from the Coast Guard and the Republic patrol approximately 30 nautical miles off the coast of Lebanon and have already identified the first boats which they repelled towards Lebanon, while also informing the country’s authorities.

The patrols in international waters are being applied for the first time and are part of the measures recently taken, along with the suspension of asylum application examinations from Syrian nationals.
