Cabinet is expected to decide on improvements to a road near Aphrodite’s Baths where a Russian couple were killed earlier this month at its next session on Thursday, Philenews has reported.
Polis Chrysochous mayor Yiotis Papachristofi said that Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis had contacted him on Saturday and informed him that he would be submitting a proposal to improve the entire road network in the Akamas to the Council of Ministers.
In view of the development, local authorities in the area decided to postpone a decision to take action themselves until Monday, November 5, he added.
The mayor said he anticipated that Forestry Department crews would start work on repairing the road on that day.
Local communities had threatened to repair the road themselves if the state did not do so. Their demand came as the Greens argued that the road was dangerous and should be closed to the public altogether.
AÂ Russian couple were killed when their car plunged off a 30 metre cliff just past the Aphrodite’s Baths on October 20, reviving debate on the road.
