23-year-old faces charges for Akrotiri fatal collision

The fatal car accident that occurred on December 31, 2022, on the Akrotiri – Kolossi road, just hours before the arrival of the new year, where 25-year-old Marilena Konstantinidou, a mother of a three-month-old baby, lost her life, will be adjudicated by the Limassol District Court.

According to information obtained by philenews, the 23-year-old defendant submitted a request to the Legal Service in the previous period for the case to be adjudicated by a Court of the Republic of Cyprus and not by a court of the British Bases.

After studying the request and the case file, the request was accepted by the Legal Service.

Today, the case of the fatal accident was registered in the Limassol District Court and set for the beginning of the proceedings in mid-February.

The 23-year-old defendant is facing the charge of causing death by reckless, negligent, or dangerous act or behavior in violation of Article 210 of the Criminal Code, driving under the influence of narcotics, and traffic violations.

It is recalled that 25-year-old Marilena Konstantinidou died next to her little three-month-old daughter, whom she did not have the chance to enjoy.

The investigation into the fatal accident was conducted by the British Bases Police as the area where the tragedy occurred falls under their jurisdiction.

The fatal accident occurred at 10:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve of 2022, on the Kolossi-Akrotiri road.

The vehicle was driven by the 23-year-old defendant with his 25-year-old partner as a passenger, while their three-month-old baby was in a child seat in the back.

The three were traveling from Akrotiri to Kolossi, and at a point on the road during a right turn, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and crash into pine trees. Marilena, 25, died instantly.
