Unions seek wage hikes and collective agreements in strike

Relevant News

Tomorrow’s 24-hour strike by the trade unions PEO and SEK will be accompanied by strike rallies, during which decisions for escalation of measures are not ruled out, at the Association of Mechanical and Electrical Works Contractors of Cyprus (SEMIEK).

The unions of Builders and Mechanical Engineers of PEO and O.VI.E.K-SEK officially announced a strike a short while ago, stating that “following the deadlock declared by the Conciliation Service of the Ministry of Labour and the decision of the workers in the aforementioned sector, a nationwide 24-hour warning strike will take place on Thursday, 18th April 2024.”

According to them, on the day of the strike, strike rallies will be held in all cities, “showcasing their determination to fight for the defence of Collective Agreements and their fair demands which include wage and benefit increases, as well as the signing of the Sectoral Collective Agreement that will cover all workers.”

The strike, as we reported, is expected to primarily affect large companies involved in electrical work, with organised labour forces, and consequently to some extent, construction activities.
