President appoints new central bank governor

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, exercising his constitutional powers, decided to appoint Christodoulos Patsalides as the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus.

Patsalides was appointed in March 2023 by the President of the Republic as a Special Advisor on economic matters.

According to a statement from the Presidency, with extensive experience in high-level positions in the banking sector, he worked at the Central Bank of Cyprus and continued his career in the private sector.

During the period 2018-2019, he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Banks in Cyprus. In October 2020, he left the private sector.

Subsequently, he provided advisory services in Cyprus and abroad in the areas of banking and insurance operations, capital management, and financial technology.

He is an economist and holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, University of London (1989).

Patsalides is appointed and assumes duties from 11th April, succeeding the current Governor, Constantinos Herodotou.

The President of the Republic wishes to express his gratitude to Herodotou for their cooperation.

Warm thanks are also expressed to Herodotou for the services he offered during a critical period for the country’s economy.
