Larnaca plans major investments for coastal area

Relevant News

Another significant step has been taken for the development of the coastal area from which the oil and gas facilities were removed in Larnaca, for which there are plans for developments worth hundreds of millions of euros.

The Department of Public Works has announced a tender for a study to determine which public projects need to be undertaken to reclaim the beachfront spanning 3 kilometres that has been cleared.

Interested parties must submit their bids by 26th April, with the successful bidder having 24 months to complete the study, costing €200,000.

The study area falls entirely within the boundaries of Larnaca Municipality and extends from the northern boundary of Larnaca port to the limits of the Former Refinery Area Plan prepared by the Department of Planning in August 2020.

The Department of Public Works has undertaken the preparation of the study, agreeing to take into account the positions of Larnaca Municipality, which aims to address erosion and create sandy beaches where possible.

The main objective of the study is to establish a strategy for the coastal zone that aligns with the provisions of the Area Plan, which anticipates tourist developments and is adapted to the natural terrain of the area.

Additional objectives include achieving integrated management of the coastal area and enhancing the safety of marine users.
