Fuel prices surge as subsidy is abolished

Increases in the average price of 95 octane petrol, beyond the subsidy of 8.3 cents per litre after its abolition on April 1st, were observed in the provinces of Limassol, Nicosia, and Famagusta, with the exception of the Paphos province where the average price of petrol increased only by 8 cents.

Specifically, according to data regarding the variation in retail fuel prices on April 1st, published by the Cyprus Consumers’ Association, the largest increase in the average price of 95 octane petrol was recorded in Limassol at 9.2 cents, followed by Nicosia at 9.1 cents and Famagusta at 8.7 cents.

On the contrary, in Larnaca, the increase in the average price of 95 octane petrol was proportional to the amount of the abolished subsidy, namely 8.3 cents, while in Paphos, the average price of 95 octane petrol was lower than the subsidy amount and specifically increased by 8 cents.

According to the Association, Nicosia presented the highest price variation for 95 octane petrol on April 1st, with prices at provincial petrol stations ranging from 1.375 euros per litre to 1.558 euros per litre.

Regarding diesel fuel, according to the data, the largest increase in the average price of diesel, which amounted to 8.6 cents, was again observed in Limassol, followed by Larnaca at 8.5 cents and Nicosia at 8.4 cents.

On the contrary, in the Famagusta province, the increase in the average price of diesel amounted to only 7.3 cents, and in the Paphos province, it was 7.6 cents.

The greatest variation in the price of diesel was observed in Limassol, with prices at provincial petrol stations ranging from 1.517 euros per litre to 1.639 euros per litre.
