The president expressed disappointment over leaks from members of the National Council.

Asked if the proposal of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus concerned a trilateral or pentagonal framework, the President of the Republic said, “I will not comment on anything regarding this specific issue.

All I want to say is to express my great disappointment – without commenting on the substance, without commenting on whether what has been disclosed corresponds to reality or not – for discussing and agreeing on certain matters in the National Council, and these things are not adhered to by some. If this is an indication of seriousness, I leave it to the Cypriot people.”

Asked to clarify what was not adhered to, President Christodoulides said, “My statement was clear.”

Asked if Turkey’s rhetoric regarding the solution has changed, the President of the Republic said, “There is nothing until now. Our effort continues, it is a single goal: to resume negotiations from where they left off. We are trying with the EU, the EU plays an important role, with some EU member states, Germany. And let me mention that the President of the Commission just informed me that she will come to Cyprus on May 1st to celebrate together the 20 years since the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU. I believe that her presence here sends an important message both to Cyprus and we continue our efforts with a single goal.”

Asked to comment on information that Turkey supports sovereignty equality and not the solution of two states and asked if there is a difference between the two, the President of the Republic said, “There are no such messages. I don’t know why they say them, who says them, what they aim at. I’m not interested in communication management, I’m not here for communication management and the Cyprus issue is not suitable for communication purposes. Beyond that, there is no difference between sovereignty equality and the two states.”

Asked if he had a message from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who was in Turkey, the President of the Republic said, “I know he was going to Turkey, we are in constant contact, I have visited the Netherlands as well, and I will be informed about the results of the contacts.”

Asked if Rutte conveyed a message, the President of the Republic answered, “Certainly, that’s why we are in constant contact with the Dutch Prime Minister.”
