The coronavirus pandemic has certainly restricted movement worldwide but nonetheless a number of VIPs did make it to the Presidential Palace in Cyprus during 2021.
High-profile visits to the Mediterranean island over the past year include those of Pope Francis, king of Jordan Abdullah, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Greek Premier Kyriacos Mitsotakis.
Official sources have told Philenews President Nicos Anastasiades also had a number of meetings overseas with foreign leaders and officials during which he briefed his interlocutors on developments in the Cyprus issue.
He also focused on Turkey’s provocative actions in the divided island’s Exclusive Economic Zone, as well as issues of special interest such as climate change and initiatives for cooperation between the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
In the context of visits to Cyprus of foreign leaders and delegations of these countries important agreements have been signed in a wide range of areas which contribute to the cooperation of Cyprus with other countries.
