Cloudy with some showers in the morning, to clear during day

Wednesday will initially be cloudy with some showers but will clear during the day as weak low pressure affects the area. Temperatures are a little above the seasonal average but are expected to fall with a cold front forecast for Friday.

In its early morning weather bulletin, the Met Office said that today will start off partly cloudy and at intervals cloudy with local showers and the possibility of thunderstorms, as well as snow or sleet in the higher Troodos peaks.

Temperatures will rise to 17 C inland and the east and south coasts, around 18 C on the remaining coasts and 7 C in the higher Troodos peaks.

Tonight will be mainly fine. Temperatures will drop to around 9 C inland, around 12 C on the west coast, around 10 C on the remaining coasts and 1 C in the mountains.

Thursday will be mainly fine in the morning but later increased cloud at intervals may lead to scattered light showers. There may be snow or sleet in the higher Troodos peaks at night.

Friday will be partly cloudy and at intervals cloudy with rain gradually in most areas as well as isolated thunderstorms. Locally in the higher Troodos peaks there will be snow.  The weather will improve significantly at night.

On Saturday there will be intervals of mainly fine weather and intervals of cloud while from midday on there will be scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. In the higher Troodos peaks there will be snowfall or sleet at intervals.

Temperatures will edge up on Thursday, mainly inland and in the mountains, to a little above the seasonal average. They will drop on Friday to a little below the average for the time of year but will edge up again on Saturday.

The depth of snow on Troodos Square at the time of issue of the early morning weather bulletin was 48 cm.
