Igudesman & Joo – A little nightmare music

Relevant News

Following their sold-out performance with John Malkovich at the Herodeon in 2022, the renowned musical comedy duo Igudesman & Joo are set to entertain Cyprus with a highly anticipated show.

Aleksey Igudesman and Hyung-ki Joo have taken the world by storm with their unique, hilariously theatrical performances that blend humour with both classical and pop music, amassing over 35 million views on YouTube. Known for their clever “mash-ups,” the virtuoso musicians, violinist Igudesman and pianist Joo mix musical genres and styles with generous doses of humour and theatricality. The audience can look forward to a program featuring works such as “Mozart Bond,” “Rachmaninov Had Enough,” and “A Very Blue Danube,” all delivered through the duo’s signature comedic lens.

Having performed as a duo and as soloists with chamber and symphonic orchestras on many of the world’s most prestigious stages and international festivals, Igudesman and Joo have collaborated with a host of classical music’s biggest names, including Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Janine Jansen, Gidon Kremer, Mischa Maisky, Viktoria Mullova, and Julian Rachlin. Their musical sketches have also featured actors like John Malkovich and Sir Roger Moore.

Aleksey Igudesman has worked with notable musicians such as Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and Grammy-award-winning singer Bobby McFerrin, while Hyung-ki Joo has collaborated with Vangelis and was chosen by Billy Joel to orchestrate and record his classical compositions, which topped the Billboard Charts.

John Malkovich has praised them as “incredibly funny, wildly creative, and brilliant musicians.”

In their show “A Little Nightmare Music,” just when everything seems under control, the concert begins, and the music is enchanting. Suddenly, a mobile phone rings and chaos ensues. The pianist loses his hand, the violinist falls asleep while tuning and later wakes up in the middle of a motorway, transformed into a Riverdance performer. When the pianist returns, the piano is locked, and he’s asked to use his credit card. Meanwhile, the violinist’s bow gets sucked into a vacuum cleaner, and his partner talks on the phone reads a paper, eats, and plays the piano upside down—all at the same time. These and many other “nightmares” unfold before the eyes and ears of the audience.

“A Little Nightmare Music” is a unique, virtuosic show filled with captivating music and outrageous humour, suitable for audiences aged 8 to 88. Whether you’re a classical music aficionado or enjoy a good Mozart tune, this show will surely enthral and excite you.

“A Little Nightmare Music” will be performed on Thursday, 11th April at 8:30 PM at the Municipal Theatre of Nicosia.

Tickets are available at www.soldoutticketbox.com, with a limited number of early bird tickets available until Friday, 23rd February.
