The Cyprus Youth Council (CYC) is pleased to announce its upcoming Democracy Festival within the framework of the European project “Mobilise Europe = Engaging Together (MEET)”. It is an event that aims to strengthen the participation of young people in the upcoming European elections scheduled for 9 June 2024, but also to encourage the participation of young people and all citizens of Cyprus in democratic and social life.
The Festival will take place on April 21, 2024, at the Home for Cooperation from 14:00 to 21:00. The official opening of the event as well as the open discussions will be held in English, while Youth organisations will participate in the Festival with parallel activities in either Greek or English.
The festival will feature a series of activities and workshops, serving as a platform where young people are invited to exchange ideas, discuss issues that concern them closely, and meet and discuss with the candidates for the upcoming European elections. As part of the festival, two open debates will be organized on the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU and European Union Strategy for Youth, giving young people the opportunity to discuss topics such as Education, Youth Organisations, European Youth Policy, Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Through these debates and workshops participants will have the chance to deepen their understanding of European institutions, EU policies, and the role of youth in shaping the future of Europe. As CYC, we seek to empower young people and citizens of Cyprus to exercise their right to vote by participating in the European elections.
The Democracy Festival is a celebration of the values of democracy such as equality, inclusiveness, and the integration of all citizens in society and democracy in the context of the upcoming European elections.
