The picturesque village of Saranti is home to Taverna Kastania, one of Cyprus’ most tasty hidden gastronomic treasures. Located on the main street of the village, this family tavern is built over a fountain flowing with ice cold natural water, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the area.
Every Sunday, the hospitable owners welcome guests with a menu full of unique homemade recipes created with fresh, local produce and plenty of love.
When the weather is good, diners can enjoy their food under the huge 100-year-old chestnut tree that the restaurant is named after, while in the colder winter months, the large interior seating space is kept warm and cosy with a wood stove where the famous chestnuts are cooked.
The rich menu snack includes wonderful macaroni cooked in the oven; fragrant koupepia; meatballs; traditional meats cooked on the spit; moschomyristo sausage and halloumi from the region.
Guests can finish their meal in the best way with freshly baked, fragrant portokalopita.
