Marilena Makri secured the Olympic Card qualification for the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games in the ILCA6 category in Sailing. The “Last Chance Reggata” races are held in Hyères, France, and Makri finished second in the fleet standings competing for Olympic qualification cards.

The sailor from the Ammochostos Nautical Club finished first in the Medal Race of the event and with 37 points, she was just one point behind the Romanian athlete who clinched the first position. Four Olympic cards were awarded in this category.

The sailing events at the upcoming Olympic Games will take place in Marseille and will mark Makri’s second participation, following her presence three years ago at the “Tokyo 2020” Games.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee warmly congratulates Marilena Makri and the Cyprus Sailing Federation for the qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the new great success of the sport.

Now our Olympic team counts five members, as Olympic qualifications have been secured by Pavlos Kontidis (ILCA7/Sailing), Denis Tarantin (Kite/Sailing), Andri Christoforou (Road Cycling), and Marios Georgiou (Artistic Gymnastics).

The Cyprus Olympic Committee extends warm thanks to its sponsors, the platinum sponsor OPAP Cyprus, the gold sponsors Cyprus Bank and Logicom, the silver sponsors MEDOCHEMIE, ALLIANZ, and HARALAMBIDIS KRISTIS, Toyota Cyprus (Mobility Partner), DELOITTE (Professional Services Partner), and CABLENET (Communications Partner), for their collaboration and support towards the realization of its goal and mission.
