Alexia sings the national anthem on the 5th Avenue [VIDEO]

Cypriot singer Alexia Vasileiou sang acapella the Greek national anthem on 5th Avenue in New York City, following the parade and the customary celebrations for the 25th of March.

This year’s events also commemorated fifty years since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Her post reads:

“As I sang the Greek National anthem, I was moved with deep emotion as this year’s parade, was dedicated to the 50 years from the Turkish invasion and the ongoing illegal occupation of my country Cyprus.

It was an honour to walk on the same street as the Εύζωνες, the Greek Presidential Guard of Greece and The Philharmonic Society of Corfu, the oldest organization of music in Greece from the 1840s, as well as with thousands of Greek and Cypriot Americans who walked representing their parish, their church, their community, their islands, their cities, their History. We were walking alongside our Ancestors, who bravely fought so that we could enjoy Liberty and Democracy.

The Voice of Hellenism resounded in the heart of New York.”
