Unfortunately, it so happens that what’s happening in the past hours is in our neighbourhood, and what is yet to unfold, is beyond comprehension!
What is certain, however, is that we are facing an explosive mix of actions, leaving not just our region but the entire planet in a volatile ignition zone.
These are indeed times when one wonders if basic human logic can prevail over the rampant irrationality that seems to be advancing from all sides. A kind of luxury in our days.
The tremors of political outbursts in the Middle East region, which are predicted to intensify even more dangerously, cannot be absorbed by any assurances or appeasements that seem to follow the initial shock. Calm approaches exist, yes, but also responsible and serious assessments of the risks, which unfortunately also have unintended consequences.
Moreover, whether we like it or not, it seems inevitable that we are directly involved in such conflicts. From the initial reports of the British media, after the night sky of Israel was lit by the operations of the retaliations, there were references to planes taking off from British bases in Cyprus.
After the outbreak on Saturday night, following the launch of more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel, the situation may seem somewhat under control.
However, both the unfolding events and the expressed intentions clearly indicate that we are in an extremely fragile period. Even the possibility of a potential global ignition is visible through this toxic mix emanating from everywhere.
Beyond the well-known condemnation of the UN and the call for a ceasefire – this was its role in the old order and remains so in the new – Antonio Guterres wisely told us that “neither the region nor humanity can withstand another war.”
The scenario of potential strikes on nuclear facilities is extremely terrifying, so any developments will indeed be unpredictable and even nightmarish. The sound of sirens in cities like Be’er Sheva, Dimona, and others in southern Israel was not accidental.
In any case, what dominates internationally is Israel’s plan “for a significant response” to the Iranian attack. On the other hand, Iran warns of actions that will continue. And whoever manages to remain optimistic about the restoration of calm and peace.
What are we doing? As we increasingly enter the realm of the irrational, it’s time to be logical.
To finally emerge from our bubble of delusion and face harsh realities. If, of course, we have such an ability.
