Young Scottish woman accuses Cyprus police of not investigating her alleged rape

Relevant News

A young Scottish woman accuses Cyprus police of taking no action whatsoever even though she was allegedly raped in Protaras in May 2019 and had filed a report.

The Scot, who was 17 at the time, said she got raped by an employee of the hotel she was staying at with her partner, CNA reported on Thursday.

And that she was assured by police officers that the case would have been investigated despite her leaving the island and returning back to Scotland shortly afterwards.

Three weeks later, she had reportedly called the British High Commission in Nicosia and was told the police never launched an investigation because, apparently, she never asked for it.

She then went to police in Scotland and reported the alleged crime, however, Justice Abroad organisation which has undertaken her legal representation said police in Cyprus are not cooperating.

Specifically, the organisation alleged that Cyprus police “refuse” to carry out an investigation.
