Young Greens joined forces with the Cyprus Youth Board once again for this year’s “Wish you were Clean” campaign during which volunteers clean up beaches and the seabed.

The first activity was held at Ziatzi beach, near Ayia Napa marina, on Sunday, with volunteers adhering to all protective measures against the coronavirus.

The 15 participants collected and recorded 72 kg of rubbish collected from the beach (14 kg) and seabed (58 kg).

Last year, volunteers collected 31 kg — just from the land — from the same beach. This points to an improvement, though the problem on the seabed is serious with fishing equipment, tins and plastic bottles collected is serious, the Young Greens said.

The next stop of the “Wish you were Clean” campaign is Meneou Beach, Larnaca on July 12 at 9 am.
