“The Garden is Ours” Limassol activists continued their protests over the weekend as the hot issue will also be debated before parliament this week, Philenews reported on Monday.
The activists demand that ongoing construction works at the coastal city’s public garden playground stop immediately since it basically destroys old and valuable trees.
They are also objecting to the Municipality’s decision to approve private sponsorship of an upgrade to the public playground claiming it is a “concrete and plasticized” version of the site.
They have already warned the Municipality that erecting a ‘theme park’ there is in full violation of the law.
The protesters argue that the whole project is carried out without any public consultation taking place first and without a completed masterplan.
Moreover, no architectural competition and opening of tenders preceded the start of the upgrade as the Municipality claims.
In other words, without any transparency and without all required permits and approvals, the activists say.
