Talks underway to connect Athalassa Park with University of Cyprus

Relevant News

The University of Cyprus wants to make Athalassa Park part of the campus as part of its plans to turn it into a vibrant meeting place for students and society more generally.

The issue was discussed on Thursday by University of Cyprus rector Constantinos Christofides and a delegation from the Forestry Department headed by the director Charalambos Alexandrou.

The two sides discussed the development and protection of the forest of the University of Cyprus as well as the possibility of connecting it with Athalassa National Forest Park.

Christofides stressed that the university wants to make Athalassa Park a part of the campus and the campus a part of the park.

“We are concentrating our efforts on making Athalassa Park into a distinct part of the university’s master plan. We want the students to be able to walk and cycle in the park and recreate it into a lively, interactive meeting place for the student population and the wider society,” he said.

Christofides and the Department of Forests also discussed protecting the forest of the university from natural disasters and agreed to expand it by planting 2,000 new trees.
