Some 600 medicines for chronic diseases still not covered by Gesy

Relevant News

Some 600 medicines for chronic diseases are still not covered by the island’s general health system (Gesy) even though this problem has been under review since March 2021.

The lack of progress was the cause behind a heated confrontation on Monday between Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Christina Yiannaki and representatives of the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO), Philenews also reported on Wednesday.

At the same time, the organized patients association has demanded an immediate solution to the prolonged problem which endangers the life of dozens non-privileged citizens.

The Minister of Health has asked for the establishment of a committee in which a representative of the Federation of Patients Associations of Cyprus (OSAK) will also participate.

The committee’s main task is to set a timetable for the resolution of all outstanding issues within a month.
