Rain, storms and snow over the next four days, system breaks on Wedsnesday

A low pressure system is bringing a real sense of winter across Cyprus and is expected to carry through to Wednesday, as January has already produced more than its share of much needed water fllow and will bring more showers and storms.

Light snowfalls over the highest reaches of the Troodos mountains over the weekend and early next week will add to almost half a metre from previous days, as thousands are expected on mountain resorts, weather permitting.

Overcast skies today will bring local showers and isolated storms with steady snowfalls over the mountains.

Winds will mainly be northeasterly, light to moderate force three to four and locally strong force five and very strong force six in the areas of the storms, with the Meteorological Service warning of strong gusts.

Seas will be moderate in the north and east and light to moderate in the rest of the coastal regions.

Temperatures will rise to 14 degrees Celsius inland, 16 on the southern and eastern coastal regions, 17 in the west and north, with six over the mountains.

Isolated showers and storms this evening in most regions, but mainly in coastal areas, with light snowfalls over the mountains. Frost is expected to form.

Seas will be mostly moderate, with temperatures dropping to 4 degrees Celsius inland, 11 in coastal regions and one on the mountains.

More showers and isolated storms across the island are expected tomorrow, with snowfalls on Troodos, as the same rainy pattern will persist through to Tuesday.

Temperatures will gradually rise by Tuesday, remaining slightly higher over the seasonal average, with milder weather is forecast from Wednesday onwards.
