Asked on the backlash for the temporary closure of four check points on Friday — Ledra Street, Astromeritis, Dherynia and Lefka — to free resources to carry out more thorough Coronavirus screenings, President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday that the measure aims to protect both Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots.
“Every citizen and every group has the right to react in a way that best reflects their views.
“However, it should be taken into account that this is not a politically motivated measure, but one that aims to protect the Cypriot population in its entirety, may it be Greek-Cypriots or Turkish-Cypriots.
“On this basis, such reactions are unjustified,” the President concluded.
