Police appeal for care after Limassol beach thefts

Relevant News

Limassol police have appealed to the public not to leave their valuables on the beach unattended after a spate of thefts.

There has been a spike in such incidents in the past three days, Limassol police spokesman Ioannis Soteriades told the Cyprus News Agency.

He said three members of the public who had gone for a swim had reported having their bag stolen to the police in the past three days.

Soteriades said the thieves watch the beaches and pounce as soon as they see someone heading into the sea to swim, leaving their valuables unattended.

In two cases the thieves also stole the cars — after finding the car keys. One of the cars, worth 22,000 euro, has been found abandoned in the Ayios Tychonas area.
