Photos of appalling conditions at Nicosia General Hospital were sent to philenews on Tuesday morning.
These show beds and equipment scattered around, a ceiling verging on collapse, even a cat strolling in the corridors.
According to the State Health Services Organisation the photos below show equipment under repair found outside the laboratory of the Electromechanical Service, in the basement of Nicosia General Hospital.
It added that it could not say where the cat had been caught on camera.
The State Health Services Organisation said it had no intention of attempting to justify the situation because the pictures speak for themselves.
But it said that it remains committed to provide all patients with clean hospitals when they visit them and this requires cooperation from all sides.
