Paphos kick-starts Carnival events on Smoky Thursday (schedule)

Paphos, Polis Chrysochous and Peyia are hosting a series of events this Carnival season that begins on ‘Smoky Thursday’, February 20.

February 20 (Smoky Thursday):

The season in Paphos opens with the festive entrance in the city of the Carnival King and Queen who will be accompanied by dancers, cheerleaders and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Paphos Municipality to take place on Smoky Thursday at 6 pm on Griva Digeni Avenue. The opening parade will be followed by a concert on Kennedy Square at 7 pm featuring Toni Sfinos and his 10-member band.

Meanwhile, Polis Chrysochous’ opening celebration will take place in the town square from 4.30 pm featuring ‘smoky’ food, song and dance.

February 23:

The Peyia Municipality will hold its Carnival Parade on Sunday, February 23 on Coral Bay Avenue starting at 3 pm.

February 28:

The annual Carnival Dance will take place at 8 pm on Friday, February 28 at Y & P Latchi Restaurant in Latchi, featuring a performance by the band “Anepanalipti”.

March 1:

The Polis Chrysochous Carnival Parade will take place on Sunday, March 1 at 11 am, starting from the Apostolos Andreas church courtyard and finishing at the town square where participants can feast on food, enjoy music and dance performances, while children can engage in fun activities prepared just for them.

March 2 (Green Monday):

The municipal beach in Latsi will host Green Monday events on March 2, where the public will be offered free lagana bread, traditionally cooked beans and wine.

There will also be traditional Green Monday games that will start at 11 am and a music performance by ‘Notes’ band starting at 2.30 pm.
