Paedophile’s victim asks for criminal investigation

Relevant News

The victim of a paedophile who was granted early release from jail following a presidential pardon has written to President Nicos Anastasiades requesting the re-examination of the case so that charges can be brought against the perpetrator’s wife.

In the letter, the victim’s lawyer Simos Angelides said police who investigated the case in 2013 found nothing against her.

However, in her decision in 2016, judge Evi Georgiou Antoniou said the paedophile’s wife (and school cleaner) had knowledge, active involvement, complicity and participation in the sexual abuse of the young girl.

The offences took place in a community in the Larnaca District. According to the Court’s decision, the perpetrator started seducing the victim when she was only 12, later escalating his offence to sexual abuse when the girl was 16 (from 1/5/2012 to 31/12/2012).

The convicted man- aged 60 years the time- lived with his wife in the same neighbourhood as the victim., and his first attempt to seduce the girl was recorded in 2009, when she was 12 years old, with the abuser using his wife in an effort to approach the young girl.

The child molester was prosecuted and sentenced to three years in prison in 2016.

The letter is in the hands of the attorney general who is reviewing it to decide whether there are grounds for criminal prosecution.
