One in four EU citizens aged between 16 and 74 claimed to have avoided providing personal information to social or professional networking services in 2019 due to security concerns, Philenews reported on Tuesday.

Across the EU Member States, the highest share of people who avoided providing personal information to social or professional networking services was recorded in France (40%), followed closely by the Netherlands (39%), Finland (37%) and Slovakia and Sweden (each 36%).

Cyprus is ranked 11th with 28% of people avoiding providing personal information to social media.

By contrast, a smaller share of the population had refrained from providing such information in Lithuania (6%), Bulgaria and Hungary (both 8%), Croatia and Romania (both 9%).

The data was compiled from Community survey on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) usage in European households.
