One in 10 labour accidents is traffic related

One in 10 labour accidents are traffic related, many of them involving fast-food delivery drivers on scooters, according to figures published by Phileleftheros.

It said that of the 2070  labour accidents recorded last year, 220 or 10.6% were traffic related. One of them was a fatality.

In 2016, of the 1905 labour accidents, 228 or 12% were traffic related and five were fatal.

In total, there have been 19 fatalities as a result of traffic related labour accidents since 2010.

Since 2010, there have been 1337 traffic related labour accidents, of which 36.13% or 483 involved the catering industry. Of these, nearly all (475 or 98.3%) involved the restaurant sector and mainly fast food delivery drivers.

Another 162 (12.12%) of the traffic related labour accidents were in transport and storage.

Of the 19  traffic related labour accident fatalities, four were in transport and storage, three in construction, three in fast food delivery and three in agriculture, forestry and fishing (two when a fire vehicle overturned and one when a tractor overturned).
