One person has died from Covid-19 at the ICU of Nicosia Hospital, a man aged 78 years with underlying health conditions, the Health Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The number of positive coronavirus cases in Cyprus dropped to six after 1441 tests. Yesterday, the Health Ministry had announced 12 new cases and the day before five. This brings the total in Cyprus to 790, including 10 in the British Bases.
The total deaths of patients with coronavirus is now 18, 13 of whom had Covid-19 as the final cause of death. The 13 are 9 men and 4 women with an average age of 70 years.
Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that today’s results again show that Cyprus is on the right track. He said that the Epidemiological Monitoring Unit is in constant communication with the Health Minister and has submitted its suggestions to the government for the gradual lifting of lockdown measures.
The results are:
- None from the large-scale 20,000 tests in workers (705 tests today).
- 3 through tracing of the contacts of positive cases (233 tests)
- One from hospital labs (126 tests)
- None from repatriations (0 tests)
- 1 from private initiative (144 tests)
- One from Okypi (state health organisations) staff (233 tests). The case is from Larnaca hospital; Okypy has already been notified and is taking all necessary steps.
From the 20,000 tests since April 11, a total of 11318 have been completed.
At 3 pm on Wednesday, there were 15 patients at Famagusta Hospital, three of them in the increased care unit. All are in good condition. One patient was discharged.
There are seven intubated patients in ICUs, six at Nicosia Hospital and one at Limassol Hospital. Another four patients are in Nicosia and Limassol Hospital ICUs, but are not intubated. Their condition is described as critical but stable.
In addition, there are eight confirmed Covid-19 cases in hospital wards other than Famagusta Hospital.
Asked who ‘patient zero’ is for Cyprus, Kostrikis said he considers that to be the Briton who was treated at the Paphos Hospital ICU and later died.
