New developments to make Limassol a year-round destination

Relevant News

Developments that are underway will make Limassol a year-round destination, Limassol Tourism Board director Maria Michaelidou told Phileleftheros.

According to Michaelidou, the Board is working on upgrading and diversifying the city’s tourism product in order to attract visitors during all seasons.

The Board is concentrating its efforts in further promoting Limassol to countries to the German, Russian and British markets, Michaelidou said.

Specifically, officials will travel to other countries to advertise Limassol as a tourist destination, attend tourism fairs, run online campaigns, as well as invite journalists and bloggers to Limassol to experience the city in the winter.

Domestic Tourism

Besides attracting foreign tourists, the Board is trying to make Limassol attractive as a domestic tourism destination for Cypriots on weekends.

During the winter, visitors can enjoy cycling and walking tours of the city, attend traditional art workshops and visit Limassol villages in organised bus tours.

In addition, a number of museums offer free admission, for example the Carob Museums in Anogyra, while others, such as the Cyprus Motor Museum, the Cyprus Theatre Museum and the Limassol Archaeological Museum have an entrance of 2-3 euro.

Other year-round activities that visitors can do in Limassol, Michaelidou says, are yachting, fishing, bird watching, cycling, shooting, safari, skiing, ice skating, tennis, hiking, horse riding, shopping and exploring wine and Byzantine routes.

Historical Centre Visual Arts Route

According to Michaelidou, the Board recently created a “Visual Arts route” of the city’s historical centre. A map which can be found in hotels and which will be available online will point to the historic centre’s art workshops and will provide information about them. There visitors can participate in creating traditional musical instruments, ceramics and mosaics classes and buy products.

The workshops host painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, fashion designers, ceramists, mosaic makers, manufacturers of traditional musical instruments, photographers, illustrators, bookbinders and galleries.

Limassol Mobility Mobile App

Through the European programme Civitas Destinations (Horizon 2020) the Board created the “Limassol Mobility” app, which people can use to find information about cycling routes, EV charging stations, parking places and public bus service including routes, stops and maps.

It also includes an integrated trip planner with location search functionality.

Entertainment and Food

Michaelidou says that Limassol “leads the way” in gastronomy and entertainment as it offers a variety of restaurants that specialise in many types of cuisine, as well as wine bars, lounges, clubs and music scenes.

Also the Rialto and Pattihio theatres offer diverse cultural programmes each month, ranging from plays to concerts and operas.
