USS guided-missile destroyer McFaul docked at Limassol on Wednesday for a scheduled port visit, the U.S. sixth fleet said in a press release.

The crew of McFaul will visit local museums, shop in Cypriot stores and “participate in a community relations event helping the local residents,” the press released said.

“The McFaul is very happy to visit Limassol,” said Cmdr. Janet Days, commanding officer of McFaul. “The crew is looking forward to enjoying the numerous museums, shops, sandy beaches and restaurants to sample the local cuisine.”

“The crew will also be able to enjoy multiple tours allowing exposure to art, culture and the local population,” said Days.

Headquartered in Naples, the Sixth Fleet is part of the U.S. naval forces in Europe.

Its mission is to “conduct the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests, security and stability in Europe and Africa.”

Vice Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti is the current commander of the sixth fleet.
