Limassol top in job vacancies

An upgraded electronic jobs platform launched by the Labour Ministry (www.pescps.dl.mlsi.gov.cy) has gone into operation aiming to reduce unemployment by giving access to job seekers and potential employers.

A search on the platform by Phileleftheros showed a total of  2,337 vacancies of which 521 in Nicosia, 280 in the Famagusta area,  400 in Larnaca,  269 in Paphos and 867 in Limassol. It notes that 37% of open job positions are in Limassol.

There is demand for cooks, waiters, beauticians and hair dressers in Nicosia as well as for mechanics, teachers and marketing employees.

Limassol needs cooks for Indian, Chinese, Asian, Mediterranean and Japanese cuisine. The district also needs 187 unskilled workers, 248 professionals in real estate, commerce and hotel and catering. Also needed are sea sport and ice skating instructors, Russian speaking presenters and producers and casino staff among other.

Larnaca is looking for farmers, live stock breeders as well as workers for vineyards and dairies while in the Famagusta area most of the vacancies are for the hotel sector, though there are also jobs in nursing and advertising among other.

In Paphos, besides the hotel sector there are vacancies for taxi drivers, photographers and sailors.

According to Phileleftheros, salaries for chefs are around €1,800, those for waiters up to €1,200, for accountants they range from €1,300 to €2,000, whereas for architects up to €1,200 and for civil engineers up to €1,500.

For deliveries and cleaning personnel monthly pay is some €900, whereas gardeners or workers are offered €700. Employees at spas or hair dressing salons receive up to €1,000.

IT jobs are better paid, with data analysts or web designers offered up to €2,800.
