Limassol District Court’s short-hand staff stage impromptu two-hour strike

Relevant News

Short-hand employees at Limassol District Court on Wednesday went on an impromptu two-hour work stoppage between 9:30am and 11:30am to protest against what they describe as extreme understaffing conditions.

Philenews also reports that about 35 employees – including court messengers and subpoena providers – were seen protesting at the courtyard of the district court.

The protesters said in a written statement: “All of us have repeatedly heard about the recruitment of new judges in the Judicial Service. But for a long time no short-hand staff have been recruited to serve all these judges.

“Please note that in the budget of 2021 there was a provision for 167 Judges and 113 short-hand staffers.

“How else would the system work? Nonetheless, three short-hand staffers have recently been seconded to meet the needs of the Nicosia Court. And no one has replaced them yet.”
