Limassol: Another arrest in connection with 104 kilo cannabis haul

Relevant News

Limassol police have arrested a 57 year old man in connection with the discovery last March of 104 kilos of cannabis in a container at Ypsonas. He is expected to appear in court today to be remanded in custody.

Six others already face charges in connection with the drug haul while a European arrest warrant has been issued for another suspect.

The Cyprus News Agency said the drugs were found after police, acting on a tip off, placed a container that had arrived at Limassol port under surveillance. The container had been imported by a company belonging to a 48 year old.

Limassol and British Bases police arrested two men as the container was being unloaded at Ypsonas and made another two arrests the same day. Police inquiries led police to the arrest of two other men, aged 25 and 27 a few days later.

The container contained 104 kilos of cannabis. The 373 packages were hidden among plasterboard.
