Labour Minister to submit final minimum wage proposal on Friday

Relevant News

Labour Minister Kyriacos Koushios on Friday will submit a final proposal on the national minimum wage at a meeting with stakeholders and the aim is to secure a much-delayed agreement in principle.

This is what Philenews reported on Friday, adding that scheduled meetings between the Minister and interested parties but also behind the scenes moves reached a peak on Thursday.

The main disagreement between unions and employers’ organisations is over the method of determining a median salary on which the minimum salary should be based.

The median wage calculated by the Cyprus Statistical Service is lower than the one calculated by European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions.

In view of the submission at 11 am of the final proposal, and in order for the national minimum wage’s institutionalization to have the maximum possible consensus, the social partners have committed not to leak anything from Thursday’s contacts.

However, Philenews has inside information that the amount of the minimum wage that is being discussed is to be below 1000 euros and close to the existing minimum wage concerning specific only professions.
