Tourist arrivals in January 2020 rose by an annual 4.5% to total 85,622, setting a new record for the month, the Cyprus Statistical Service said on Monday citing the results of the Passengers Survey.
Tourist arrivals from Israel increased by 58.0% in January 2020 compared to January 2019 while an increase of 91.9% was also recorded for tourists from Ukraine.
In contrast, there was a 4.7% drop in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom. Arrivals from Greece fell 18.1% and those from Russia 4.6%.
Main countries
The United Kingdom constitutes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for January 2020, with 26.1% followed by Israel with 16.0%, Greece with 10.7% and Russia with 8.8%.
Purpose of visit
For a percentage of 57.6% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in January 2020 was holidays, while 22.9% visited friends and relatives and 19.2% came for business.
