Human error is behind the fire which broke out near the virgin forest area of Akamas over the weekend since it had started from the road, police said on Monday.
The fire – just outside the village of Kathikas – had threatened houses and destroyed 300,000 square metres of forest vegetation. It was put under control about six hours later.
All possibilities were examined and human error appears to have been the cause of the fire since it started from the road, Philenews also reports citing insiders.
About 100 fire fighters were sent promptly on the site along with a total of 22 fire engines. Firefighting forces had stayed in the area overnight.
