The Health Ministry has urged the public and particularly vulnerable groups to be careful, as Cyprus continues to swelter.

Its announcement followed a warning of extreme high temperatures issued by the Met Office with temperatures on Monday and Tuesday set to rise to 41 C inland.

It said the public and especially vulnerable groups such as babies, children, people over 65, pregnant women and people with chronic health problems are urged to avoid exposure to the sun,  wear loose, light coloured clothes, sun glasses and hats, avoid alcohol, coffee and heavy food and consume plenty of water. Special attention should be paid to newborns as well as people with respiratory and heart problems.

According to the latest weather forecast, Monday will be mainly fine. Temperatures will rise to 41 C inland,  35 on the south and east coasts, 33 on remaining coasts and 30 in the mountains.

Tuesday will be mainly fine, with light dust in the atmosphere. Temperatures will remain at the same levels, edging down on Wednesday and Thursday to average for the time of year.

Wednesday and Thursday will see increased clouds with isolated showers possible on Thursday.
