Relevant News

A passenger who travelled to Larnaca Airport from China via Moscow has been quarantined at Nicosia General Hospital as tests are carried out to establish whether she has contracted coronavirus, the Health Ministry said in an official announcement on Monday.

It said that it was informed by an airline that the passenger was showing symptoms resembling those of the coronavirus.

The health protocols were activated and the patient transferred to Nicosia Hospital for further checks, it said.

Moreover, the crew and the passengers who had come into close contact with the woman and who under the protocol are considered high risk should the woman test positive for the virus, were examined as a precaution by health professionals at the airport and given specific instructions to monitor themselves.

In addition, the Health Ministry has taken down the contact details of all the passengers who were briefed on what precautionary measures they should take over the next 14 days.

“In anticipation of the results of the test and in the event that it is positive, the protocols will be activated to transfer the high-risk passengers to quarantine in a special area and to inform the remaining passengers to remain at home,” the ministry added.

The Cyprus News Agency said the passenger is a Chinese woman who lives permanently in Cyprus and visited China two weeks ago.

There were another 85 passengers and six crew on the airplane and all have completed the relevant documentation.

Moreover, the crew and passengers who were sitting next to or within two rows of seats in front or behind the woman and others who had also travelled to China underwent a medical examination as a precaution, the news agency added.
