A 56-year-old German tourist is lucky to be alive after falling off the side of a Sea Caves cliff in Peyia on New Year’s Day while attempting to take a selfie.

She fell into the sea from a height of seven meters, according to Philenews which cites Paphos District Police spokesman Michalis Nicolaou.

“The accident took place in the afternoon of the first day of 2023, while the 56-year-old woman was trying to take a selfie with the husband,” he said.

“She was walking backwards to get a better shot but fell from a height of seven meters into the sea…she has suffered a fracture to her right leg and arm,” he added.

The German tourist’s condition is described as stable but out of danger after a speedy rescue operation. She is receiving treatment at Paphos General Hospital.

Sea Caves are a protected natural landmark, representing unusual rock formations on the shore. It is not stones that are protected but Seals which, for some reason,  choose this place to rest during migration.

However, the chances of seeing animals are minimal but there are breath-taking unusual rocks, stone arches and the caves themselves.
