Businesswoman Alisa Tolkacheva, a former mayor of the Russian city of Tula is seeking to challenge an extradition request from Russia where she is wanted for embezzlement.

Tolkacheva is suspected of forging the minutes of general meetings of apartment buildings tenants in order to bill higher service charges.

She was arrested in Cyprus on February 6.

Tolkacheva had reportedly been living in the Turkish occupied north and was arrested when she crossed over to the government controlled areas as she was on Interpol’s wanted list.

She has applied for asylum and has objected to her being sent back to Russia. Pending the hearing she was released on bail.

Last week,  she applied to the Supreme Court for permission to file a certiorari ruling that would allow her to challenge her arrest and would block the district court from holding an extradition hearing.

In a decision issued on Friday, she was granted permission to make such an application
