Five cats were shot by an arrow bow in Pernera area, coastal Famagusta district, over the Green Monday long weekend and at least one has died, Philenews reports.
A Cyprus Animal Party announcement on Monday also said that one has died, three were rescued and another one is trying to survive.
The Party also said that tourists, who came to Cyprus on a holiday, were confronted with this cruel and sad situation.
The case has already been reported to Paralimni Police who have collected testimonies and pictures taken by witnesses who had tried to feed the cats.
The photographs were sent to the Party which also said in its statement that the possession and use of firearms or other arms such as an arrow bow is regulated by relevant legislation (113(I)2004.
Ad that penalties for violators provide for up to two years imprisonment or €5,000 or both.
The Party also called on the Chief of Police and state veterinary services to act swiftly.
