Catering establishments in the Famagusta district are asking for a special government approach because of the area’s heavy reliance on seasonal tourism.
The Association of Owners of Recreation Establishments Famagusta (SIKKA) said the support measures announced by the government fall short.
It said the government should appreciate that the Famagusta area survives on tourism which is seasonal.
“With the current situation and the fact there are no tourist arrivals, the catering establishments need a special approach as regards the government’s support measures. Members of the association are considering staying closed even after the measures are lifted,” it said.
Operating for a short period, with or without restrictive measures, can only lead them to bankruptcy, the association added.
