Environment Department finds source of unpleasant smell in Nicosia

The Environment Department is informing the public that yesterday, 12 September, it received complaints by various state services, municipalities and residents about a very unpleasant smell in the areas of Kaimakli, Aglandjia and Geri.

Members of the Department have investigated the issue and with the cooperation of the United Nation, the cause of the problem was spotted. It was ascertained that Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot farmers placed the manure in the buffer zone that borders the above areas, without then attempting to incorporate the manure into the ground to reduce the unpleasant smell.

Currently, the Department is trying to resolve the problem, it said in an announcement.
