Elderly woman’s death in Paphos caused by third-degree burns

The death of an 86 year old woman after a fire at her Paphos home was caused by third-degree burns, an autopsy showed on Friday.

The woman had been in her bed in her house on Vasileos Constantinou street in central Paphos on Thursday morning, when a fire started from an oil heater that was nearby.

It is believed that the fire spread to her blanket and burned the woman, who had fainted due to smoke.

Neighbours noticed the fire and contacted authorities.

Firemen found the woman unconscious inside the house and called an ambulance which transferred her to Paphos General Hospital.

She was pronounced dead shortly after 9 am.
