An elderly man has died of complications from influenza A at Limassol Hospital, a senior Health Ministry official confirmed on Wednesday, bringing the total number of flu-related deaths since December to eight.
Maria Koliou, who heads the Health Ministry’s surveillance unit for infections, told CyBC TV that there have two new serious flu cases since yesterday.
Koliou said that the deceased man, aged 72, had prior health issues.
Asked how the flu situation was developing in Cyprus, Koliou said that infections could not stop from one day to the other.
But she said that overall, the spread of the virus is abating.
On Monday, the Health Ministry has said that five patients were in intensive care units at Larnaca (one patient), Paphos (two patients) and Limassol (two patients) hospitals. It added that since December 1 there had been, until Monday, 43 serious cases and seven deaths.
