The Department of Forests in cooperation with the Cyprus Institute tested the use of drones for fire protection in an exercise on Tuesday.
The exercise took place in Aetomouttis State Forest, near Lythrodontas. The exercise scenario included aerial surveillance of the area with the use of drones, initially aimed at identifying and tracking suspicious movements, then accurately locating the source of the fire as well as the continuous and immediate processing and utilisation of the information collected in real time on the mobile Coordinating Centre of the Department of Forests.
The exercise simulated real conditions of a fire outbreak.
Director of the Department of Forests, Charalambos Alexandrou, said he was very pleased with the exercise stressing that it is part of the continuous qualitative and technological development of the Department, as well as a part of a further collaboration with the Cyprus Institute.
